While Föllakzoid were starting their recording of II album under Sacred Bones Records, singer and bassist JP had been working parallel with the band Chicos de Nazca on their second recording at BYM headquarters, which was receiving plenty of the new scene of the Santiago Psychedelic underground by that time.
Their record had more success that any of the ones released so far ('Fireride' released by Hozac) and Chicos made their debut in Europe on the summer of 2011.
The set included an octopad instead of drums played by pro-skater Cucho Avendaño and a shoegaze wall of sound by guitarist Francisco Cabala (Hell Gang).
Although the success of Föllakzoid took JP away after that record, he continued doing music with the drummer Cucho under the alias of Special Cases.
First record was a solo trip and was conceived under synth experimentations during the krautrock years of Föllakzoid, which presents lots of distorted organs, delayed guitars and instrumental passages.
There was an aim to keep long jams under control and structure, in a drone dreamy ambient, but also an aim to make compositions that could express a different palette of colours and moods.
By the second record, released on BYM, Cucho joined to make more rock-oriented songs and showing the songwriting of JP at a higher level.
The exploration now moved to a post-punk joint that revered bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride and Spiritualized.
After the duo completed a couple of gigs in Santiago and Berlin, the band moved on to a full ensemble with second guitar and bass player to make a their third record, done on 2019 during the civil unrest in Chile and released under the pandemic.
Still using the loyal octopad, the songs showed a more cool vibe and sincere approach to influences like Galaxie 500, Spacemen 3 and Sonic Youth, and the band members grew by adding artists and musicians from other bands (La Rabla, Los Knock Knocks).
Special Cases collective gain a lot of energy that couldn't be showed up due to lockdown and uncertainty and the record eventually got hidden under the radar.
Same pandemic year JP and Cucho began to work in a set of songs that were more simple and honest, moving through neo-psychedelia, post-punk and indie, with the formation reducing to a trio with M.
Tellini on bass and Cucho on a full set of drums. Recorded in 6 hours at Estudio Lautaro in Santiago de Chile, mixed and enginnered by Pablo Thiermann from Mr.
Ray and mastered at BYM Records by Nes, 'No Mind' is the most mature record of the band to date, with fluid and acid playing on guitars, whirled and distorted ambients which sets a rave laying down on bed, energetic beats that takes you to a rollercoaster, all topped by spiritual vocals with lots of reverb and delay.
To take leap in this ride, keep in mind September 17th 2021 in digital platforms and September 24th as the official release date, available on CD.
