DON CABALLERO
GANG BANGED WITH A HEADACHE, AND LIVE (2012) (JOYFUL NOISE)
The first ever live album from legendary instrumental juggernaut Don Caballero! "Gang Banged With A Headache, And Live" is a recently-unsurfaced "authorized bootleg" from the math rock founders.
With material spanning from 1993's "For Respect" (Touch & Go) to songs that would end up on 2006's "World Class Listening Problem" (Relapse Records), "Gang Banged..." includes a decade's worth of quintessential Don Cab material.
Some background for the uninitiated: Don Caballero emerged in the early 90s with their other-worldly and completely groundbreaking style.
Re-inventing song structure from the ground up, Don Cab cultivated what would eventually become known as "math rock".
While the general public was first cutting their teeth on Nirvana, Don Cab was 10 steps ahead of us, pioneering their elaborately-rhythmic, loop-centric sound that would pave the way for a host of future bands.
Much like the band, "Gang Banged With A Headache, And Live" is shrouded in mystery. Not much is known about the origins of the recording, but what we do know is (1) it was probably recorded in Chicago, (2) it was probably recorded in 2003, (3) it fecking rules.
