HIGH PLACES / SOFT CIRCLE
SPLIT (PPM)
PPM number twenty-five comes to the world as a special present wrapped in sweet textures, grooves and experimental make up.
A 12" E.P. containing two bands playing for each other whose mental brain paths collide in perfect symmetry, a nice nugget of pleasing sounds and artwork by three individuals who know how to kill it.
High Places are from New York, Rob and Mary have been making music for years now and it has brought them allover the world.
HP's track on the split "Late Bloomer" is a long and beautiful piece of composition, with a vocal hook that stays in your head for weeks.
The way they write songs is very mysterious, always crashing and rhythmic collisions, whispers, bangs, clangs, sea shores and melody seep into your body.
Definitely rides the line of club banger or bedroom jammer, it works perfect either way.
Soft Circle is Hisham Bharoocha's solo effort, formerly of Black Dice, Pixeltan and Lightning Bolt.
SC's previous endeavors were more akin to his role in "Beaches and Canyon's" era Black Dice; eastern, drone, blissful.
The two tracks on the split "Don't Just Stand There" and "Light Bright" are way more geared to a dance floor inspired mass, underground disco, NY wave etc.
Always original and epic, SC remains a New York secret, until the full album drops in fall '09 when the Soft Circle world domination program begins in full force.
