YOUNGS, RICHARD
RIVER THROUGH HOWLING SKY (JAGJAGUWAR)
"River Through Howling Sky" is the newest recording by RICHARD YOUNGS (of course on JAGJAGUWAR). Best known through his collaborations with MAKOTO KAWABATA (ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE), SIMON WICKHAM-SMITH, NEIL CAMPBELL, SUNROOF and VIBRACATHEDRAL ORCHESTRA, he returns tot the more meditative and drone-y side of his songcraft on this album.
What sets "River Through Howling Sky" apart from his precedessors? It is the density on the recording, both intraspatial and otherworldly, the howling guitar points unerringly to some imagined horizon line.
YOUNG is the calm and steady wolf, who is chanting odes to infinity and shows , supported by a spartan amount of percussion and electronics, that not everything is rational, not even our western tonal system!
