DEVONNS, THE
COME BACK / THINK I'M FALLING IN LOVE (RECORD KICKS)
Record Kicks proudly introduces "Come Back," the debut single from The Devonns, a new Chicago soul outfit.
Despite their youth, the band members have a deep appreciation for 60s and 70s soul music, drawing inspiration from legendary artists such as The Impressions, Leroy Hutson, and The Isley Brothers, as well as contemporary musicians like Raphael Saadiq and Jamie Lidell.
Their goal is to explore the songwriting and production elements that defined music from 1965 onward.Written in just ten minutes using a $300 Danelectro single-cut guitar, "Come Back" was recorded at Kingsize Sound Labs in Chicago.
The track features contributions from accomplished musicians, including Paul Von Mertens (known for his work with Mavis Staples and Paul McCartney) who arranged the string section, and Ken Stringfellow of R.E.M., who played guitar and percussion. This single serves as a precursor to their debut full-length album, set to release in the fall via Record Kicks.
"Come Back" will be available on June 1 as a digital download and limited edition 45 vinyl.
Founded in 2016 by singer-songwriter Mathew Ajjarapu, The Devonns also include Khalyle Hagood (bass), Khori Wilson (drums), and Cam Cunningham (guitar).
