ZWEILASTER
WIEHERD (TOMATENPLATTEN)
"On December 6, the duo ZWEILASTER will be releasing their third album "Wieherd", the second of which will be released by Berlin based label Tomatenplatten.
Never change a winning team: this time, too, the two recorded together with Julian Knoth (Die Nerven).
What was still being broadcast over the airwaves with a (be-)rushing low fidelity on their first album is presented now more powerfully than ever on "Wieherd".
You can't help but wonder once again what the hell they're mixing into the water down there in Stuttgart...
I'm always impressed when music has intrinsic greatness even without lavish instrumentation.
ZweiLaster play minimalist (pop & post-)punk without any showmanship, even approaching No Wave here and there.
Songs like the opener "Allein" or the bellowing "Everywhere" are catchy without becoming dull, "Berge", "Angerufen" and "Graureiher" dig deep without having to resort to grand gestures.
Before you feel too comfortable, the tempo changes anyway and ZweiLaster disintegrate into dissonant, charming chaos.
"Wieherd" never seems contrived, never stereotypical, always like a snapshot. It takes courage to release such a ruthlessly unembellished image into the world.
Or maybe it just has to be good and this is good. If Taylor Swift fans are Swifties, then I'm Lasti." - Drangsal
