RAMONAS, THE
HIGH ON LIFE (CAMPARY RECORDS)
he Ramonas are probably the best tribute band to the legendary The Ramones, the New York forefathers of punk.
Formed in the UK in 2004, the all-female band perfectly captures the ultimate garage punk rock sound of 1976 and brings it to the stage in energetic performances.
True to their motto `Touring, touring is never borning', the Ramonas' constant touring in recent years has earned them a reputation as one of the hardest-working bands in the scene.
And rightly so: since 2016, Die Ramonas have also been writing their own songs, which they mix in with the Ramones classics at their shows.
This is clearly recognisable from singer Lisa's stage outfit: while she wears the obligatory sunglasses for the Ramones covers in the style of Joey Ramone, she takes them off when presenting her own songs.
And now finally an official vinyl compilation with the most essential RAMONAS originals.
`High On Life' offers an 18-track cross-section of their work to date, ranging from the debut EP "You Asked For It" (2016) to the (still) current album "Haphazard" (2021) and featuring some fantastic songs, such as "So called this, so called that", "Sue me", "Speak up", "Cotton wool kids" and "Take me home".
Above all, the concentrated load of grrrl power makes you realise that the RAMONAS are not just epigones, but self-confident and creative musicians who are no longer satisfied with prototypical three-chord punk.
A magnificent selection of original compositions that effortlessly capture the `76 spirit of their idols.
