TOPSY TURVY
BUTT SORE (WHITE VINYL) (SILUH RECORDS)
The trio Topsy Turvy is the latest discovery from the seemingly inexhaustible pool of the new Viennese indie scene.
On their debut album, Theresa Strohmer (guitar), Lena Pöttinger (drums) and Victoria Aron (bass) manage to combine the energy of 80s British post-punk with driving surf influences and beautifully quirky indie pop melodies.
On their almost thirty-minute debut album "Butt Sore", which was produced by their Siluh label colleague Peter T.
from Euroteuro, the three musicians create wonderful sound collages that carry their music light-footedly yet drivingly through the eleven songs of their debut and move between the lo-fi spirit of the Moldy Peaches and the rock'n'roll of the Black Lips.
Despite diverse and sometimes contradictory influences, the songs create beautiful, crazy and organic associations that take the listener on a restlessly relaxed journey.
Each song on the debut album is absolutely unique, without seeming intentional or like a foreign body on the timeless and, despite the various influences, homogeneous record.
Topsy Turvy have the great gift of creating catchy tunes. This ability makes "Butt Sore" one of the most exciting albums of the year and the band a figurehead of a new Viennese indie scene that is forming around the Siluh Records label with groups such as Salamirecorder, Telebrains, Potato Beach, Gardens and Laundromat Chicks.
