GUHTS
REGENERATION (NEW HEAVY SOUNDS)
New York's GUHTS (pronounced 'guts') describe themselves as an 'avant-garde post-metal project that delivers larger-than-life sounds and deeply emotional music'.
By their own admission, GUHTS' musical style is influenced not only by iconic metal bands such as Gojira, Cult of Luna, YOB and Deftones, but also by more unconventional acts such as Bjork, Subrosa, Isis, Julie Christmas and even PJ Harvey.
It's undoubtedly heavy, with a strong feminist streak, it's cathartic and weighty, a formidable debut for such a new band.
GUHTS was formed in 2020 by Scott Prater (Witchkiss), Amber Burns (Witchkiss) and Dan Shaneyfelt (Black Mountain Hunger) as a passion project.
After the release of their first EP "Blood Feather", which received rave reviews from Decibel Magazine, Invisible Oranges, The Obelisk, Cvlt Nation and others, the members focused on new ideas.
Brian Clemens (Sleaping Dreaming) & Daniel Martinez (Nefariant) joined GUHTS in 2022 and the band quickly began making plans to record "Regeneration".
Since then, GUHTS have made a name for themselves with their powerful live performances, sharing the stage with bands like Yob, Cave in and Marissa Nadler and performing at Maryland Doom Fest, Crucial Fest and Ohio Doomed and Stoned Fest.
Musically, "Regeneration" is a powerful and intense set of songs, topped off by some very powerful and expressive vocal performances.
Slow chords, overlying high guitar lines that pierce and shimmer. The drums pound, strings, pianos and synths expand the palette.
Atmospheric sludge, metalgaze, with links to the New York noise lineage of The Velvets and Sonic Youth.
