NICHTS
MADE IN EILE (REMASTERED DELUXE EDITION) (CARGO RECORDS)
Reissue of the debut album "Made In Eile" by NICHTS, the still active band from Düsseldorf around Meikel Clauss.
Recorded in 1981 in just four days and making waves afterwards, it contains the NDW/punk pop hit "Radio" as well as critics' and fans' favourites "Eingeschlossen", "Hallo Kartoffelsalat", "10 Bier Zuviel" and "Wer Bist Du".
Black vinyl, digipack CD and for the first time download/stream of the '81 post-punk/NDW classic on its exact 40th anniversary as a remastered deluxe edition with bonus tracks and 16page booklet! Original album tracklist plus single version of "Radio" and unreleased outtake "Nichts Geht Mehr".
Remastered 2020/21 by Dieter Joswig, the engineer/sound technician of the studio sessions at that time.
The devotedly restored artwork is complemented by a booklet with selected photos and unreleased pictures from 1981/82.
Together with drummer Tobias Brink, bassist Christopher Scarbeck and singer Andrea Mothes, ex-KFC guitarist Meikel Clauss formed NOTHING in late '80/early '81.
They soon enjoyed great popularity in the burgeoning NDW (German New Wave) boom, even though the band with its punk background actually wanted little to do with it.
But the song "Radio" and Andrea's voice also fitted in well with IDEAL, NEONBABIES and others.
The band recorded the album with the local independent label Schallmauer under the direction of Dieter Joswig and released the LP in June 1981.
In autumn of that year, NICHTS had the 7" single "Radio" distributed by the major CBS, which became a minor chart hit after an appearance on the ARD programme Bananas: "Lieber Gott, ich wünsch mir so, meine Stimme im Radio / In den Charts Nummer vier, alle sind so nett zu mir" (Dear God, I wish my voice was on the radio / In the charts number four, everyone's so nice to me).
More than 70,000 units of the album and more than 10,000 singles sold, also thanks to the video clip - a small sensation for a band with a punk background that actually just wants to waste its youth.
But the music critics are also taken with it: "[_] clearly skilful pop music with German lyrics." Musikexpress 1981 * "Finally another thoroughly good German LP." Spex 1981 - NICHTS go on their first big tour through Germany ...to be continued!
